The most powerful piece of LazyDog is now open: a full design editor, built right into the site. It's a complete studio in your browser — the familiar power of a PowerPoint-style ribbon meets the ease of a Canva-style toolkit — where you can open, edit, and finish any deck without another app. It's in beta and under active development, and this is just the first look.
The standout feature — cross-app consistency, so your work never falls apart in transit.
What Can You Design in the Editor?
The editor is built for slide-based content — pitch decks, media kits, presentations, look books, brand decks, and keynote presentations. You can start from any LazyDog template and customise it fully, upload your own PPTX file and edit it in the browser, or build from scratch using the templates, elements, icons, illustrations, and grids in the left panel.
Every element is editable: text, images, shapes, colours, layouts, and backgrounds. The Animate and Effects panels add motion and visual polish when you want them. When you're done, you download a file that opens cleanly in any app your client or colleague uses — no "it looks different on my machine" conversations.
A Ribbon You Already Know
Across the top sits a familiar ribbon — Home, Arrange, Design, View, Review, Present — organised exactly the way office software is. Clipboard tools, fonts and sizes, WordArt, bold / italic / underline, text colour and highlight, alignment, bullets and numbering, spacing, and select / find. If you've ever built a slide before, there's nothing new to learn.
A Canva-Style Toolkit Down the Side
The left rail is where the creativity lives: Templates, Elements, Icons, Illustrations, Stickers, Frames, Grids, Brand, Fonts, Layers, Pages, Comments — plus Animate and Effects for motion and polish. Everything you need to build or restyle a slide is a single click away, no hunting through menus.
How It Compares to Canva and PowerPoint
Canva is excellent for design, but its exported files often break when opened in PowerPoint or Google Slides — fonts substitute, shapes shift, spacing changes. PowerPoint is powerful but runs only on desktop, requires a licence, and doesn't have the fluid creative toolkit that browser-based tools do. The LazyDog editor sits between them: it has Canva's creative ease and PowerPoint's familiarity, but with cross-app consistency built in from the start so the file you export is the file everyone sees.
For freelancers who work with clients on different platforms, that last point matters most. You finish a deck in the editor, send the PPTX, and the client opens it in Google Slides exactly as you designed it. No revision round because the title font changed on their machine.
Open, Edit, Present, Export
Upload a deck to bring it in, edit it as freely as you like, rehearse it in Present mode, then Download when you're done. It's round-trip friendly, so the file you take out stays as clean as the one you brought in.
Under Development — Developers & Freelancers Welcome
This is an early, evolving release, and we want eyes on it. Developers are warmly invited to try the editor, put it through its paces, and suggest any modifications — your technical feedback genuinely shapes where it goes. And freelancers are welcome to explore its features first-hand and see how it slots into a real workflow. Poke at it, break it, tell us what you'd change.
This Is Just Chapter One
The editor does far too much to fit in a single post. Over the next few volumes we'll walk through its features in depth — the panels, the animation and effects, the brand tools, presenting, and more. Consider this the overview; the deep dives are coming.
